Sacred Cow——神聖不可侵犯的

    !! This metaphor alludes to the honored status of cows in Hinduism in India, where they signify God’s generosity to humanity. It’s alright to milk the cows or use them for hauling, but strictly forbidden to kill or injure them.

    這個隱喻是指奶牛在印度的印度教中有尊貴地位，象徵著上帝對人類的慷慨。可以使用它們來擠奶或拖運，但嚴禁殺傷。

    !! The legend has it that the Hindu hero Prithu changed himself into a cow to encourage his countrymen to raise vegetables and/or be vegetarians. That and the doctrine of ahimsa, “harmlessness to all living things,” preached by Buddha are the reasons why cows are still sacred in India, roaming the streets at will.

    傳說印度教英雄Prithu將自己變成一頭牛，鼓勵他的同胞種植蔬菜和/或成為素食主義者。這和佛陀宣揚的不殺生教義“無害眾生”，是奶牛在印度仍是神聖的，可隨意在街上游蕩的原因。
